Testimonials

“As a university student, I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies (GNI) for their enriching course on Sikh Ethos and Social Justice. Relocating to Surrey, BC, was a significant transition for me, and this course has been pivotal in broadening my understanding of Canadian society, especially regarding the Sikh community. Dr. Sharnjit Kaur Sandhra’s instruction was enlightening. She skillfully navigated the history and experiences of Sikhs in Canada, highlighting their perseverance and contributions. Her lessons offered a deeper appreciation of the diverse fabric of Canadian multiculturalism.

GNI’ s emphasis on the history of minority groups and the principles of equality, justice, and mutual respect was particularly impactful. This course has been instrumental in integrating my Indian heritage with my Canadian identity, providing me with a richer perspective as I navigate my academic and personal journey—a huge thank you to GNI for this invaluable learning experience.”

“I’ve grown up learning about Sikhi, but I never had a way to connect with it on a deeper level. I took SIKH 101 at GNI. This course gave me a better understanding of its foundations and inspired me to keep learning on my own after the course ended. Since then, I’ve started reading more, researching online, and even improving my Punjabi to connect with the teachings.”

“I am incredibly thankful for my time at the Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies in Surrey, Canada, where I took the Sikh Ethos and Social Justice in Canada Course. As a secondary school teacher new to Canada, this course was key in shaping my understanding of the Sikh diaspora and Canadian culture. Dr. Sharnjit Kaur Sandhra, our course instructor, provided deep insights into the history of the Sikh community in Canada. Her teaching illuminated the resilience and contributions of early Sikh pioneers and their solidarity with other marginalized groups. The course went beyond facts, sparking dialogues on how past events influence current Canadian policies and the fabric of multiculturalism. This experience instilled a strong sense of pride in my Canadian Sikh identity and expanded my perspective on present-day integration and diversity issues. GNI, as a non-profit institute, exemplifies the Sikh ethos of selfless service, focusing on knowledge for empowerment. The learnings from this course are foundational to my goal of fostering intercultural understanding. I’m proud to be part of GNI’s alumni network and highly recommend their programs to individuals across various fields.”
